Woodworking creates a lot of dust and particles. If woodworking is your hobby, you should invest in a good half-mask respirator for woodworking.
Disposable paper dust masks rarely seal against your face properly, allowing dust to get into your lungs. Even if you use a dust collector, there is still dusk floating around your wood shop.
Half-mask respirator options
There are many respirators on the market. Some are rated for particles, and others for chemicals and vapor. In most cases you can purchase the mask and buy the proper kind of replaceable filter cartridges.
I recently upgraded to a 3M half mask respirator and the difference is significant! I get a nice, tight seal on my face even with facial hair. So now I have no more coughing or “dust tickle” in my throat after working in the shop.

Using a good half-mask respirator is especially important when working with reclaimed lumber. Old barn boards, for example, can contain decades worth of dirt and dust and in some instances can contain lead paint (test first when possible).
